Biography of Webmaster
I came to Florida in 1984 when my father relocated our family so that he could take a job with Siemens in Boca Raton. I went to Addison Mizner Elementary, Boca Raton Middle School, and Boca Raton High School. During those years I was involved in my community. I sang in the church choir, I appeared on WPTV 5 as a boys soprano several times during Sunday Morning Mass, Altar Boy, involved in Catholic Charities, President of the Pride of the Gold Coast Marching Band, coached youth sports, and the list goes on.
After High School I joined Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 3-6 in Boca Raton a totally volunteer organization. In the nine years that I was a member I qualified as crew on 41’s, Radio Watch Stander, and ATON Repair (all ratings from the actual Coast Guard). I pulled many boaters and divers out of the ocean. In the case of ATON Repair, I was only of about 20 Auxiliarist with that rating at the time. Auxiliary Qualification held were Vessel Inspector, Crew, Coxswain, Career Counselor (helped High School Juniors enter the AIMS Program), Flight Observer, Radio Watch Stander, and Instructor for Safe Boating courses. I was a Staff Officer of my flotilla several times over that span of time, which I was the junior member by 10 years. I worked my way through college by being an aid for children with sever mental and physical disabilities at Boca Raton High School. I have a B.A. from F.A.U. in History as well as several hours of post graduate work. I did several large research papers and was awarded the Xerox Humanities/Social Sciences award for a paper I wrote on the busing policies in Palm Beach County School District. I spent weeks in the school district archives doing the research.
After college I became a High School Social Studies teacher and worked in Belle Glade at both West Tech and Glades Central High Schools. As a teacher I was very involved with my students. In one year I was at West Tech I was the IT resource on campus, Student Government Advisor, Year Book Sponsor, as well as all my normally duties as a teacher. I was awarded Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year 2003 from the Florida Council for the Social Studies as well as Palm Beach County Social Studies Teacher of the Year 2002. I was awarded the prizes in part for writing my own interactive web site that allowed students to discover history as opposed to just reading about it. I never received a dime for from the school district for the site. I footed the bill myself. I was one of five teachers that wrote the question bank for the American History Mid-term and Final Exams given by all Palm Beach County to all students taking that course. On a humorous note my AP American History teacher from Boca High chaired the group. I also owned and operated a business for my family for a few years. In all that time I was always trying to make wherever I was better place.
I just turned 30 years old and I’m happily married and have two wonderful children ages 3 and 1. I’m now a stay at home dad and I couldn’t be happier! I absolutely love the opportunity of being home with my children and I’m blessed with the ability to do so. I have always been involved even in my earlier years, and I have brought that involvement to Lake Worth. I have lived here since 2002 and after last year’s storm season felt driven to get involved. I have never been afraid to express my opinions and I created this website so that others could express their feeling about where they live as well. I’m always striving to bring a better experience to the users of this site and I spend endless hours researching the stories that the site produces. I hope all of you enjoy using it, as much as I do in creating it. It’s important for our community to have an independent and reliable place where they can get information!
Together we can all build a bridge to a brighter tomorrow!
